Mild Persist. w/ Accutane

I thought I would go ahead and post my situation since I haven't read any exactly like it. I am on day 5 of accutane, 20mg, I'm female, about 110 lbs.

I would say my acne is typically mild but occasionaly moderate. I have tried everything over the past few years. I used to only break out once a month, but now there is always atleast 1 or 2.. and usually 3-5.

I have not yet experienced any side effects.. I think my lips are a tad dry.. but that's it. I think this is probably because of the low dosage. I may be at the beginning of an initial breakout, but I'm not sure yet.

For BC I am using Yasmin.. this is month 2 of it and my breasts are sore 3 of 4 weeks a month. Other than that I am only using a clyni. (not sure how to spell that) topical antibiotic for the zits I have to keep any irritation down.

For now I am just trying to have patience.. which is so hard! It's almost summer time and I don't want to have to worry about having makeup on all the time!

My acne was mild-to-moderate before I went on Accutane - most people were very surprised that I went on Accutane considering my skin BUT I had been on antibiotics for so long and still had breakouts. I am 26 and just finished a 5 month course of Accutane- at a much higher dose than you (80 mg per day). I had a pretty minor initial breakout and my only side effects were dry lips (used Aquaphor) and dry skin that was controlled by a good moistorizer. My results have been amazing - good luck!

I'm considering going on Accutane for my acne too. My acne sounds exactly like yours. It's very mild/moderate. I also weigh the same amount http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'm scared of the side effects. Is your dosage really small compared to the usual? Like you, I'm sick of the antibiotics. Also, I have really oily skin-yuck.

AM, 80mg does seem a bit high, but great that it worked for you. Since this is only my first month I think the dosage will go up next month. Like you people are shocked when I tell them I'm on Accutane, but none of these people have acne, so it's harder for them to understand.

Emmanuel, I think my dosage is low compared to what I've read on here. But like I said above it will increase each month. So far no bad side effects. Which is great. My skin was never really oily, but since yours is, I think Accutane would be even more helpful.
