General Contractors and Mobile Storage: A Strategic Partnership

Small contractors and large developers all share one thing in common: the need to store their supplies and materials. Construction, building and renovation projects require plenty of materials and space to work in. Contractors also need to protect their materials during the construction phase. A recent trend in the mobile storage industry is the development of strategic partnerships between mobile storage companies and contractors. Mobile storage companies are providing cost effective storage solutions to contractors big and small. Most contractors purchase materials in bulk to benefit from the economies of scale. However, to do so requires the space to store the materials. The savings of bulk purchasing is often negated by the high cost of commercial storage space.

Mobile storage facilities are the perfect fit. Contractors can order their material in bulk and have them stored in a secure climate controlled warehouse for less than the cost of storing the materials themselves. The economic benefits are real. The contractor saves on labor and costly commercial storage space. Another advantage is that many mobile storage facilities are equipped to accept commercial deliveries and store the materials until the contractor is ready for them at the job site.

Typically, mobile storage facilities offer two options to the contractor. The first option is to have the materials shipped directly to the mobile storage warehouse. When the contractor is ready for the materials the mobile storage company will deliver the items to the job site on an as needed basis. This eliminates the need to cram the materials in the work space and allows the contractor a larger space to maneuver within.

The second option is to transport mobile storage units directly to the job site and leave them on site. On site storage is becoming very popular for many contractors. Mobile storage companies offer storage units made out reinforced wood, aluminum and steal depending on the specific security needs. The storage units come in a variety of sizes. Sizes include: 5’x7’x8?reinforced wooden units, 5’x7’x8?steel units, 8’x8.6’x20?steel and aluminum units, and 8’x8.6’x40?steel and aluminum units. Smaller and larger units are available depending on the contractors needs.

Scott Love, Millard Electric, an Omaha, Nebraska based company, said their business could not exist without the use of storage facilities. They order materials in advance for jobs not scheduled to begin for months. However, in order for them to receive the best prices, it is essential for Millard Electric to purchase large quantities of materials and store them until the job is ready to begin. Once the job begins, they have the materials delivered to the job site on an as needed basis.

John Martin, an attorney in Gantt, Alabama can’t say enough good things about his experience with on-site storage units he received through the Mobile Attic, an Alabama based mobile storage company. Martin used the on site storage containers during a kitchen remodeling project. Martin found the convenience of storing his belongings and supplies in his driveway very impressive.

So take advantage of these time and space saving services and consider a strategic partnership with a mobile storage company in your area. This partnership will help you remain on time and budget with you construction and building projects.
